So many of you have asked how this all started. Here’s the story.
Foundation was always a hassle
Since my teens, putting on foundation was never easy for me. It looked heavy. It never sat right. I always thought maybe I just wasn’t good at makeup.
I tried brushes. I tried sponges. Nothing felt like it was made for my skin.
A leap to China
A few years ago, Theunis and I decided to take a leap. We moved to China to work.
Two years in, I was doing an online makeup course in the evenings. I was learning so much, but my foundation still wasn’t sitting right.
The sample that changed everything
Then a sample arrived in a different material. I tried it, and it blew me away. My foundation blended in smoothly and looked like skin.
I turned to Theunis and said, “I think we have a business.”
One sponge to start
We found a factory that could stitch it and make the changes I wanted. Then we started with one sponge. That sponge is the OG.
It’s hand-stitched and always used dry. It works with liquid, cream and powder, and it absorbs very little, so your makeup stays on your skin.
In 2022, Theunis, Francois and I started Blend & Snap. I taught myself everything along the way: the website, the emails, the ads and the design.
Where the name comes from
I was on the couch watching Legally Blonde. When the “Bend and Snap” scene came on, I knew. Blend & Snap was born.
The part I love most
Women I’ve never met send me messages on WhatsApp. They tell me they always thought they couldn’t do their own makeup, and now they feel confident.
I understand that feeling completely, because I felt the same way for years. Those messages are why we do this.
Where we are today
Today we have four tools: the OG, the Minis, Porify and CloudRounds. You’ll find us in more than 80 salons, and you’ve left us more than 790 reviews.
We’re still a small South African brand, and we’re still learning every day. Thank you for being part of it.
